Should Birthright Citizenship Be Ended in the U.S.?

The Trump administration is proposing to end birthright citizenship — the current policy under the 14th Amendment that grants automatic U.S. citizenship to any child born on American soil, regardless of their parents' immigration status.

Right now, children born in the U.S. become citizens even if their parents are undocumented (in the country illegally), temporary visa holders (like tourists, students, or foreign workers), or permanent legal residents (PLRs) — non-citizens who legally live and work in the U.S. with a green card.

The proposed change would restrict automatic citizenship only to children born to at least one U.S. citizen. Supporters argue this would reduce immigration abuse and protect national interests. Opponents say it undermines American values and violates the Constitution. What’s your view?
